A work day at the museums was held June 10. A youth group of Summer Youth Conference Volunteers from area Churches of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints requested service projects and thru the help of the KFB board we were given the opportunity to provide work for them. This great group of young people did a fantastic job of cleaning flowerbeds, raking, weeding the Perry House garden, mulching all the beds at both sites, and bagging all the yard trash. The grounds around both sites look really great. Our thanks to KFB and the Youth Conference Volunteers and the adult coordinators. Many thanks to to Hill's Sand Co. for the mulch that was delivered for this project.
The newest artifacts on display at the Frank J. Brown Heritage Museum are indeed authentic. A CHILD'S WICKER ROCKER in excellent shape now has a place in the parlor. A BABY'S WOOD HIGH CHAIR that converts to a stroller has a place in the kitchen. It too is in excellent condition. Both items are circa 1900 and were used by the Founding Family--Frank. and Mary Jane Brown. The artifacts have been cared for and passed down through family descendants, the most recent Perry and Susan Brown who felt the Museum is the appropriate place for the items now. WE THANK YOU!
The restoration of the 1952 Glines Barber Shop is now completed and it is awaiting your visit at your convenience 24/7. The interior of the shop is in the exact condition it closed. When you push the button on the exterior, the interior is illuminated and the barber tells you the story of Friendswood's first barber shop. Go to the front porch of the Brown Museum, (108 Skyview) turn right onto the deck and proceed to the window of the shop. Enjoy!
