All the second grade classes at Cline and Westwood elementary schools are visited by The TRUNK LADY, Margaret McDonald, and her assistants. They take an antique trunk loaded with items used in daily life by families 100 years ago that teach history as well as entertain.
The third graders at Cline and Westwood elementary schools include a visit to the Frank J. Brown Heritage Museum and the Perry House garden during the week of their study unit on Friendswood History. Volunteer Docents acquaint the students with the accouterments of life in Friendswood in the early 1900s.
The Society participates in this annual community event sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce in the month of April at Stevenson Park. We usually have home preserved figs for sale as well as our books etc., a quilt show, historic Friendswood bus tours, tours of our Museums and a craft show.
The community is invited to the annual Christmas Tree Lighting at the Frank J. Brown Heritage Museum every first Tuesday of December. The event is an ol’ timey family evening with carols, wassail and gingerbread and a visit from Santa Claus. It has been a custom for more than 30 years.
A lovely quilt designed and made by local ladies to be raffled off is the prime fund-raiser for the Society. Raffle ticket sales start in the spring and the winner is drawn at the Community July 4 evening celebration.
